Why Should You Become a Member of ALAJ?

The Alabama Association for Justice, or ALAJ, is the voice of trial lawyers in Alabama. A membership with ALAJ instantly connects you with over 800 plaintiff's attorneys and a variety of resources. Build your network and invest in your practice with ALAJ.

Are you a lawyer who is involved in personal injury work and is engaged in the representation of plaintiffs no less than two-thirds of the time? Then, you qualify for ALAJ membership.

Auto Torts & Trucking Litigation Caucus

The auto torts & trucking litigation caucus is a forum designed to exchange information, ideas, and trial strategies in cases involving automobiles, trucks, buses, and motorcycles. The Section covers collision cases, truck safety, highway design, low speed impact/soft tissue injuries, automobile products liability issues, and the evolving science and technology affecting the industry.

The Business Torts Section assists members litigating securities, class action, data protection and consumer privacy, and intellectual property cases. Emerging Leaders Caucus

The EL Caucus serves as a resource for young lawyers to develop, enhance, and foster a balanced professional life. The section works with ALAJ to encourage continuing education through monthly lunch & learns, increased membership, participation of new lawyers in ALAJ activities, and the exchange of information between new lawyers and other experienced ALAJ members. It consists of all ALAJ members under age 40 and/or practicing for 10 years or less. The EL Caucus has its own board, and the EL President also serves as a non-voting member of the ALAJ TRIAL Trustees. 

Employment Law Caucus

The Employment Law Caucus concentrates on all aspects of employment and labor law, including Title VII, Americans with Disabilities Act, Family and Medical Leave Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967, Fair Labor Standards Act, employment discrimination, and wrongful discharge cases.

Medical Negligence (Malpractice) Caucus

Medical malpractice is negligence committed by a professional health care provider—a doctor, nurse, dentist, technician, hospital or hospital worker—whose performance of duties departs from a standard of practice of those with similar training and experience, resulting in harm to a patient or patients.  This section is where attorneys who represent clients injured or killed as a result of medical negligence can meet and exchange information, ideas, and trial strategies to better represent their clients’ interests.

Nursing Home Litigation Caucus

The Nursing Home Section provides a network of communication and collegial support among attorneys whose elderly clients have suffered catastrophic abuse and neglect in nursing homes and assisted living facilities. These serious cases include injuries or death due to decubitus ulcers, aspiration pneumonia, starvation, dehydration, gangrene, rape, assault, falls, burns and wandering.

Solo Practitioner & Small Firm Caucus

Social Security Disability Caucus

The Social Security Disability Law Section focuses on disability insurance benefits, Supplemental Security Income, Medicare, and Medicaid, and supporting legislation, regulations, and agency policies designed to protect claimants’ rights to disability compensation.

Women's Caucus

Since its creation, one of the primary objectives of the Women’s Caucus Section has been to promote women trial lawyers in all areas of the ALAJ. Members of the caucus play instrumental roles in many ALAJ activities including legislative efforts, the political arena and our CLE program. The caucus works hand in hand with the ALAJ and its mission of preserving our civil justice system and protecting the rights and safety of Alabama’s citizens.  In addition to other activities, the caucus hosts the Women’s Caucus “Legislative Days” with the women members of the Alabama State Bar and the Alabama Defense Lawyers Association in Montgomery during the legislative session, the caucus participates and promotes women speakers at CLE seminars throughout the year and gather at all major ALAJ events to socialize and network.

Workers' Compensation & Workplace Injury Caucus

The Workers’ Compensation and Workplace Injury Section provides information on occupational diseases and injuries, insurance regulations and rates, the Americans with Disabilities Act, workplace safety and violence, and workers’ compensation laws. The caucus also offers monthly lunch and learns as well as the Annual Workers' Compensation Seminar.
